Depends how its used. Although its true most stick animations out there are done by amateur artists doesnt mean the style cant be adapted to something new...

Sticks are simple animations that can be enchanced. There can be and will aways have stick animations, they are simple, mostly run smoothly and don't take a lot of space (i think). But i do prefer mostly the "normal" animations, even if I don't think sticks sucks. Look at castle, killing spree and the battlefield. To me, non of them sucks.

Sticks have been greatly beaten to death.
First and foremost, people take them to a new style, which the real purpose of sticks is to be able to get started on animating simple things.
Therefore, it leads to the point that sticks are a newbie attempt at animating.
